Welcome to The Young Designers
What started as a simple idea to support my teenage daughter’s creativity eventually grew into something much bigger than I ever expected.
Years ago, my daughter wanted to try selling handmade 3D beaded items, so I decided to create alongside her so we could open an Etsy shop together. But in many ways, creativity and handmade work had already been part of my life long before then.
My mother taught me how to knit, and later an elderly family visitor taught both my mother and I how to crochet. The very first item I ever made was matinee sets for a cousin who was expecting twins. From there, creating with yarn became something that stayed with me through every season of life.
Some of my designs even carry pieces of my family story with them. For example, my bird bookmarks were inspired by my oldest brother, who was an ornithologist. While experimenting with scrap yarn one day, I realized the bookmarks were also easier for my elderly father to grip than traditional paper bookmarks, which made them even more meaningful to me.
To this day, I almost always have a project in progress for charity; whether knitting or crocheting items for those experiencing homelessness or creating pieces that simply bring comfort to others.
For me, handmade work has never just been about selling products. It’s about creativity, connection, family memories, usefulness, and creating something with care that can be passed from one person to another."
